What should I do if I spill water or other liquids on my laptop?

It goes without saying that water and electronics do not mix. That being said, accidents happen and the quicker you react to the problem, the greater the chances you will have of minimizing the damage.

We recommend taking the following steps to remediate your liquid vs. laptop situation:

1. Immediately turn the laptop off and disconnect the power.

2. Open the laptop as much as possible and place it upside down on a towel to allow the liquid to drain.

3. Attempt to power on the device.

4. Upon successful startup, open a text document of your choice to test the functionality of all of the keys, particularly in the area of the spill.

5. If the computer malfunctions in any way, check the warranty status of the laptop with the manufacturer or retailer.

6. If the warranty is out or the manufacturer will not repair liquid damage, then contact FixMyGadget located on University Street in Peoria at 309-981-2000 or go to their website at https://www.fixmygadget.com/locations/peoria/

Please note: the service desk does not keep any pricing for FixMyGadget, so you will need to contact them for that information.
