This article is for students who are having issues with the Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) on a Mac computer. The best solution is to first remove, then reinstall LDB. Reinstalling without removing all traces of the application will not help.

Apple's solution for removing application has always been to drag the application icon from the Applications folder to the Trash, however, this often leaves behind remnants of files in other directories that will cause issues if the application is reinstalled in the future.

To completely remove Respondus LDB, you will need to delete the following files and folders:

  1. /Applications/LockDown Browser
  2. /Library/Application Support/Respondus LockDown Browser/
  3. ~/Library/Application Support/Respondus LockDown Browser/
  4. ~/Library/Preferences/com.Respondus.LockDownBrowser.helper.renderer.plist
  5. ~/Library/Preferences/com.Respondus.LockDownBrowser.plist

To get to the folders listed above, it is recommended that you click on the Finder in the dock, then in the menubar at the top of the screen click Go > Go To Folder and type in the non-bolded part of the paths above.
